Design team sought for Navy Pier scheme
Navy Pier, one of the most popular visitor attractions in Chicago, US, has launched a global search for a design team to draw up plans for the redevelopment of outdoor public spaces.
The announcement is the first step towards bringing its Centennial Vision to fruition, which aims to transform the historic attraction. Upscale dining and entertainment options and more appealing public spaces to capitalise on the pier's "unique setting" are among the Navy Pier's plans.
Spaces to be overhauled include the Gateway Park at the west entrance; Crystal Garden; and Pier Park, as well as East End Park and the South Dock. Navy Pier Inc president Marilynn Gardner said: "A major goal of redesigning the Pierscape at Navy Pier is to help make Navy Pier a truly world-class destination."
It is anticipated a design team will be selected in February 2012. Image: Banpei at en.wikipedia
