Devon council approves footpath plans
Devon County Council (DCC) has agreed plans to re-establish access to Vixen Tor, an area of Dartmoor that has been closed to the public for the past six years.
The council's public rights of way committee approved recommendations for a modification order to be made to the definitive map after the land's owner withdrew access in 2002. A number of organisations, including the British Horse Society, the Ramblers Association and the Open Spaces Society, supported the application for a modification order following consultation last summer.
Alan Hosking, DCC councillor for Yelverton Rural, said: "In my youth I climbed the Tor and I hope that this decision will eventually enable the iconic attraction to be available for local residents, tourists and lovers of Dartmoor to enjoy again." However, a six-week objection period will now be enforced, and until the order is confirmed, no public right of way will exist across the Tor.
