Director of National Army museum dies
The National Army Museum (NAM) director, Ian Robertson, has died, aged 60.
His interest in the British Army was life-long. Born into a military family, Ian was a dedicated historian whose love of history began when he was at school.
He spent most of his life developing expertise in a wide range of historical fields with a successful career that spanned 38 years.
As the director of the NAM, he oversaw the production of 31 publications on the history of the British Army, took a close personal interest in NAM special exhibition programmes and was also instrumental in the development of plans for a NAM North in Yorkshire.
Chairman of the NAM Council general, Sir John Waters, said: “Mr Robertson’s dedication to the museum and the heritage sector in general was unquestioned. His death has come as a terrible shock and the museum will feel his loss greatly.” Details: www.national-army-museum.ac.uk
