In light of these often-conflicting agendas, Fields in Trust has produced a new edition of the flagship publication The Six Acre Standard, in a new and improved format and with a new name.

Planning and Design for Outdoor Sport and Play continues to uphold the original FIT recommendation that six acres of recreational space is required for every 1,000 people - a benchmark which has become the accepted industry-wide standard since its inception in the 1930s.

It also provides a detailed framework of the issues relating to quantity, quality and accessibility of outdoor facilities for sport and play and the importance of local assessments and standards.

Produced in a binder format for ease of use and subscription updates, the new edition addresses the sustainability agenda and its impact on the long-term provision of recreational space.
