Dish of the day: Spam, Spam and Spam
A restaurant in the Philippines has modelled itself after the most unlikely example for a successful eatery – Monty Python’s Spam café sketch.
Although the chanting Vikings might be missing, the Spamjam restaurant in the Philippines offers a menu that will leave no tinned pork lover cold.
Located in the chic Ayala Centre shopping complex, in the Makati district of the capital Manila, the restaurants menu includes such delights as Spam spaghetti, Spam potato chowder, Spam Caesar salad and bean soup with Spam.
In fact, the only dish not containing the much-maligned product, are the French fries and hotdogs.
And to everybody’s surprise, since opening its doors in February, the restaurant has successfully carved out a market next door to its competitors, many offering nouvelle cuisine.
Although there are no immediate plans to spread out to a chain, managing director, Philip Abadilla, considers his restaurant as a “test bed” for international expansion.More News
