Police have recovered a body in the search for a missing two-year-old who was snatched by an alligator'>Alligator from a Disney-owned resort.

According to Orange County police, divers found a body they believe to be the child, who was dragged into the water on Tuesday evening on the shoreline of the Seven Seas Lagoon at the Disney Grand Floridian Resort and Spa near Magic Kingdom.

Sheriff Jerry Demings identified the missing boy as Lane Graves from Nebraska. Following the attack, five alligators were captured and killed in the hunt for the child. The body, which was found intact, has yet to be identified but the police say they are confident that it is Graves.

The man-made lagoon does feature a “no-swimming” sign but carries no warning of alligator attacks which Disney has said it is now reviewing. The boy’s father also sustained minor injuries, with lacerations to his arm as he attempted to save the child from the predator.

Alligators are frequent in Florida waters, with the reptiles found in all of the state’s 67 counties. Population growth in areas near water have led to “more frequent alligator-human interactions, and a greater potential for conflict”, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
