Cardiff Council is to bring the Doctor Who Experience to the city after the attraction leaves its current home at London's Olympia next year (2012).

The council hopes to establish Cardiff as the attraction's permanent home and has sought planning permission for a 3,000sq m building in Porth Teigr.

Working closely in partnership with BBC Worldwide - which owns the intellectual property of the Doctor Who franchise - the council is currently drawing up a feasibility study for the attraction.

The attraction will continue the city's strong link with Doctor Who. Cardiff has featured heavily in the storyline of a recent IDoctor Who TV series and the Doctor Who Exhibition - also owned by BBC Worldwide - ran at Cardiff's Red Dragon Centre until March 2011.

The main element of the family attraction will be an immersive, timed dark walk experience where visitors will become involved in their very own Doctor Who adventure. The 'show', which has been devised with input from Doctor Who executive producer and show runner Steven Moffat, will feature spectacular special effects and exclusively filmed footage.

Design and AV specialist Sarner was appointed to design, create and produce the attraction following a tender at the beginning of 2010.
