Donation for new Dorchester Sports Centre
Dorchester Swimming Bath Trustees have donated £72,000 towards the Dorset town's new £8m leisure complex, which is currently under construction and due to open next spring.
The trustees have been calling for the provision of a new pool in Dorchester since 1975 and some of the funding handed over to the local authority dates back before World War Two. West Dorset District Council is working alongside Dorset County Council and the Thomas Hardye School on the project, which is being delivered by The Leadbitter Group.
When complete, the Dyer-designed facility will incorporate a six-lane swimming pool and a 60-station gym, along with a learner pool, a dance studio and a changing village. District council leader Robert Gould said: "We are very grateful to the Dorchester Swimming Bath Trustees, and all the people who have donated money to their campaign, for this generous contribution to the project."
