Dorset leisure centre beleaguered by maintenance costs
Queen Elizabeth’s Leisure Centre near Wimbourne, Dorset, will reportedly need £1m of maintenance work over the next seven years.
The Bournemouth Echo wrote that East Dorset District Council is struggling to keep the centre in working order.
The QE Leisure Centre Consultative Group approved a list of works deemed to be most important, which total £87,000.
However, the work can only completed if the funds can be found, with the district council asked to pay £52,110 and the county council expected to pay £34,750.
The paper quoted council leader Spencer Flower as saying: “I can see that this work is necessary. If it isn’t done, the building will deteriorate. We’re going to have to find a way.”
