Down Hall spa building gains consent
Planning consent has been granted for the addition of a 1,200sq m (12,900sq ft) spa to Down Hall hotel near Bishop’s Stortford, UK.
Masterminded by ReardonSmith Architects, the new spa will be located away from the main property but connected at ground floor level to the main bedroom wing of the hotel.
The spa will be laid out around three major components with two stone blocks anchoring a timber and glass spine in the centre of the building.
There will be eight treatment rooms overlooking an internal courtyard alongside a 20m swimming pool, a small gym, sauna, steamroom, café and lap pool.
Speaking about the development, Conrad Smith, managing director of ReardonSmith, said: “Our spa scheme is unashamedly modern but it is also a well-mannered building that will complement its older neighbour.”
Down Hall is owned and operated by Veladail, which also owns Flemings Hotel in Mayfair and Hertfordshire’s Bushey Hall. Details: www.reardonsmith.com
