Durlston Castle reopens after £5.5m revamp
Durlston Castle, which is sited at the heart of Durlston Country Park near Swanage, Dorset, has officially reopened today (17 November) following the completion of a £5.5m revamp.
Members of the public will be able to access the historic building tomorrow (18 November) after work was completed to redesign the interior of the Grade II-listed castle.
Facilities such as a visitor centre; a shop; interactive displays; a gallery; and a cinema room have been provided as part of the revamp, in addition to the Seventh Wave restaurant.
The Heritage Lottery Fund helped finance the project, which also included the installation of new works of art including the 40-tonne Great Globe limestone sculpture.
Dorset County Council cabinet member for environment Robert Gould said: "The visitor centre is a wonderful focal point and view point for the Jurassic Coast."
