The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is in line to lose around £400,000 after the forfeited Test between England and Pakistan at the Brit Oval.

Although normal ticketing policy dictates that fans would not be entitled to reimbursements as 54 overs were played on Sunday, the ECB and Surrey CCC have offered a 40 per cent refund to Sunday's ticket holders.

A spokesman for Surrey and the Brit Oval said: "We are not substantially out of pocket as we are insured against income from the fifth day of the Test.

"However, because of the uncertainty, we had to prepare for the fifth day, so our catering teams have bought supplies and there are stewards here with no game to steward."

It is not clear at present whether the ECB will seek compensation from the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the losses incurred.

Pakistan's captain, Inzamam-ul-Haq will face charges of bringing the game into disrepute following his team's protest against a five run penalty for alleged ball tampering.
