Eco-friendly installations for SGL facility
A new energy and cost-saving gas turbine has been installed by South Gloucestershire Leisure (SGL) at Longwell Green Leisure Centre.
The Combined Heating and Power Unit (CHP) will help save the trust nearly £50,000 and will provide free hot water and electricity for the next 10 years. CHPs, which recycles the heat produced in the generation of electricity, have now been installed at five centres operated by SGL on behalf of South Gloucestershire Council.
SGL facilities manager Ian Jones said: "The trust is working hard to reduce overall energy consumption across all its centres. "In partnership with South Gloucestershire Council, we are now looking to install biomass boilers as further way of reducing our carbon footprint, the first one of these will be at Kingswood Leisure Centre in 2011."
