Edinburgh WHS Action Plan to launch
A new action plan to promote and preserve the Old and New Towns of Edinburgh's World Heritage Site is to be launched by the Edinburgh World Heritage Site Steering Group.
The steering group comprises the City of Edinburgh Council (CEC), Historic Scotland and Edinburgh World Heritage, with the plan containing a number of key actions and priorities.
A review of signage to identify and interpret the World Heritage Site and ongoing efforts to safeguard the historic environment through grants and restoration work feature in the plan.
The Old and New Towns were designated as a World Heritage Site in 1995 and more than 75 per cent of buildings within its boundaries are listed.
CEC planning leader Jim Lowrie said: "This action plan sets out how the council and its partners will conserve and promote all the different elements that make the city one of the most iconic in the world."
CEC's planning committee will be presented the document for approval on 1 March.
