El Bulli retains global restaurant accolade
El Bulli, Spanish chef Ferran Adrià's restaurant in Roses en Cala Montjol, Catalonia, has been named as the best restaurant in the world according to the S. Pellegrino World's 50 Best Restaurants 2009 poll.
The Spanish restaurant was handed the accolade for the fourth successive year, beating off competition from The Fat Duck, Heston Blumenthal's restaurant in Bray, Berkshire, which finished second in a poll of more than 800 industry professionals. Noma restaurant in Copenhagen, Denmark, moved up seven spaces on last year's results to complete the top three, while its head chef Rene Redzepi also picked up the Chef's Choice award.
