Ellesmere Port waterfront vision unveiled
A partnership including Peel Land and Property; the Waterways Trust; and Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWCC) has unveiled its new vision for Ellesmere Port's waterfront.
The consortium is working alongside the Ellesmere Port Development Board to regenerate the area and to promote it as a destination for residents, tourists and visitors. Plans for the waterfront include improving the existing Docks Conservation Area, which is to bring new activity to "underutilised and an often under-appreciated" asset.
At the heart of the conservation area is the National Waterways Museum, with the planned improvements designed to open up access and enhance public space. An ecology park and a promenade alongside the Manchester Ship Canal will also form part of the scheme, along with residential and tourism-related developments.
CWCC executive member for prosperity Herbert Manley said: "These are exciting times for Ellesmere Port and the waterfront project really has the potential to make a huge difference to the town. "Following the launch of the vision, detailed planning and partnership working will continue to move forward the delivery of this programme."
Peel director of land and planning Louise Morrissey, added: "These important proposals offer real potential to promote and assist with regeneration within Ellesmere Port."
