Elton John to lead Old Vic
Sir Elton John has been appointed as the new chairman of the Old Vic Theatre. The composer and singer takes over the post from Lord Bernstein, who has chaired the Old Vic Theatre Trust since its took over the theatre in 1998 and subsequently saved the historic building.
'The Old Vic is one of the most important theatres in Great Britain having been the home to some of the greatest actors and companies of the last century,' says Sir Elton. ' I am immensely excited about contributing to the future of this great theatre.'
The theatre is approaching a new phase of development and growth says chief executive, Sally Greene: 'There is no-one as well qualified as he is to energise and enthuse the theatre-going public.' Details: +44 (0)20 7439 1210
