Energy attraction opens in National Forest
A new interactive family attraction called E.ON Energy Experience has opened at Conkers in the heart of National Forest, Leicestershire, UK.
The exhibition – designed by Haley Sharpe – focuses on climate change, energy production and conservation issues.
Central to the exhibit is Energy World – a 3ft animated globe that demonstrates the dramatic effects of climate change, such as how and why polar ice caps melt and how the Earth’s plants absorb carbon from the atmosphere.
The Energy Home zone teaches visitors how to be more energy efficient and how to identify wasteful scenarios in each room within a house, the Energy Town zone allows visitors to manage a power station control room and balance the energy generated to ensure a town’s lights are kept on, while different methods of generating energy in the UK are presented in Energy Nation.
Stephen Woolfe, chair of the National Forest Foundation, said: “Climate change not only affects all countries worldwide but will also have an impact locally and on all our lives; what better way to get across such an important message than through the exciting Energy Experience exhibit which is a great addition for visitors to Conkers.”
The attraction also features new information points – funded by East Midlands Tourism (EMT) through its Public Realm Challenge Fund – new shelters, interpretative panels, benches, listening posts and touch-screen kiosks at gateway sites to encourage visitors to explore the area.
