England awarded badminton championships
The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has awarded England the 19th World Championships, which will be hosted in London in 2011.
The bid has received strong financial backing from UK Sport and its World Class Events Programme, and had also secured the backing of the UK government, London mayor Ken Livingstone and London 2012 chair Lord Coe.
Badminton England’s chief executive, Adrian Christy, said: “This is great news for the sport and is just what we need as we aim to raise its profile in the countdown to the London Olympics.”
