Epsom announces revamp details
Epsom Downs racecourse, the home of the Derby Festival, has appointed Willmott Dixon to redevelop the famous site.
Work on the racecourse will start in October following the demolition of the current 70-year-old stand and part of the £25m redevelopment project is due to be completed – housing 4,000 people – in time for the 2008 Derby.
The new grandstand, designed by architects Limbrick, will hold 11,000 spectators and will include a 960sq m hall with catering outlets suitable for conferences, exhibitions and other events. The grandstand
The grandstand will also house 14 private facilities for viewing and a ‘super box’, capable of hosting more than 100 people.
John Frankiewicz, chief operating officer for Willmott Dixon, said: “This famous venue will be an exceptional facility when finished in 2009, one that ensures Epsom continues as a premier racecourse in the UK.”
