Esporta appoints tennis coaches for racquets academy
Esporta Racquets Academy is further enhancing its development programme for UK tennis players with the appointment of world-class tennis coach Carl Maes and Tim Henman’s former fitness coach, Kieran Vorster.
Maes coached Kim Clijsters to the number one World Tennis Association (WTA) ranking before being recruited by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) in 2003.
South African-born Vorster worked with the LTA after splitting with Henman to help British players extend their fitness endurance.
Both coaches will work out of Esporta’s Riverside club in Chiswick.
Gary Stewart, tennis consultant for Esporta, said: “Our aim is to operate the best high-performance clubs in the UK and for this you need the right people in the right places to deliver. We think we’ve got them.”
There are currently 3,500 10 to 18-year-old participants in tennis development programmes at 18 Esporta clubs nationwide – a tenth of which are in the highest category of performance programme. Eleven of the clubs are LTA performance-accredited.
