A week-long celebration of youth arts commencing on 21 November is to mark the opening of a new arts centre in Birkenhead, which will become home to Wirral Youth Theatre.

The Pilgrim Street Arts Centre, which will also provide a new base for the Birkenhead Youth Outreach Team, will comprise a theatre and performance stage and a multimedia studio.

Drama and dance studios and a facility for youth workers to offer support and advice is also part of the new facility, which is housed in a former primary school.

Caron Drucker of Wirral Youth Theatre, who will manage the centre, said: "It's going to be an amazing event, and a brilliant launch for our new centre."

Wirral Council cabinet member for children's services and lifelong learning Ann McLachlan added: "Hopefully, this centre will be the catalyst for capturing talent, and showcasing it to a wider audience."
