Everwild Canmore is accepting bookings for stays starting in late November, when the extensive spa facility and accommodation will open in Canmore in Alberta, Canada.

The property will be operated by Canadian hospitality brand Basecamp Resorts.

The 99-key hotel, formerly known as MTN House Hotel, is completing a programme of renovations.

The combined hotel and Nordic spa facility will be the flagship location for Basecamp’s adoption of expanded wellness facilities across its portfolio in Canada – of which it already has three planned.

Sky McLean, founder and CEO of Basecamp Resorts told Spa Business, “2025 is a milestone year for Everwild – the culmination of years of dreaming, designing and building experiences where nature guides every detail.

“In the Bow Valley, our flagship Nordic spa and hotel, Everwild Canmore, will welcome guests looking to experience hot/cold circuits, bespoke treatments, seasonal dining and holistic wellness practices inspired by the elements and the soul-striking landscape,” added McLean.

Everwild Canmore’s Nordic spa

The new spa’s installation has cost CA$27 million (US$19.6 million, €16.8 million, £13.8 million).

Within the entire property’s 3.78-acre landscape, the spa has an external footprint measuring 29,105 sq ft and an internal footprint of 9,572sq ft. It has been designed by Edward Tsang, senior interior designer and founder of Edward Tsang Studio Inc – based in Canada.

The spa's design integrates technology to minimise water waste, reduce chemical use and lower energy consumption. Heat recovered from saunas is repurposed to warm floors and pre-heat water. Smart sensors adjust temperature and flow based on occupancy.

It will have six treatment rooms named after features in the nearby landscape, including mountains and waterfalls: Ha Ling, Three Sisters, Rundle, Lady Mac and Grotto.

Everwild Canmore has a partnership with a local skincare supplier, Mother Earth, which will provide bespoke spa treatments.

Designer Edward Tsang has also partnered with the property to provide the hotel and spa with a robe he designed, called the Sora Spa Robe. These will also be available for guests to buy.

Guests wait for or wind down from their treatment in a relaxation space called Quartz Lounge.

Thermal facilities

The thermal facilities at the property will be extensive, with a focus on social experiences defined by elemental signposting:

Earth – these spaces will offer nourishment and grounding experiences

Air – these zones will be used for conversation and social energyWater – guests can hydrate themselves with herbal teas and cocktails here

Fire – Digestion, shared energy and warmth are the priorities in these areas

The Elements Lounge is a building that offers a social space for up to 55 people to hydrate and enjoy seasonal small bites and is described by Basecamp as a place to linger between circuits, connect with friends or unwind alone.

The Heat Lodge is a separate structure offering an Aufguss experience with sauna masters leading up to 42 guests through infusions and storytelling. Sauna equipment is provided by two Finnish companies, IKI and Harvia.

In another building, the Steam Lodge has two rooms, with space for 14 and 18 people respectively, for aromatic steamroom detoxification. They offer different temperatures and humidity profiles.

The property’s Salt Lodge has a capacity for seven people and the air is infused with naturally occurring salts for a grounding experience.

There are two cedar barrel saunas on site, each of which can fit four people, for cosy relaxation sessions. These barrels have been custom-made by a supplier called America, which is based in Quebec, Canada.

Two Retreat Tents will host gentle movement classes and breathwork workshops, with space for ten people to take part in each tent.

The Commons Tent will be a flexible space for communal experiences, such as yoga, seasonal ceremonies, educational workshops or private group bookings. This is an open-air gathering space.

There will be three outdoor fire pits, described as Fire Gardens, which will become natural gathering points across the spa. Eight people can warm themselves around each pit.

Pools

The spa will have a range of pools for guests to choose from with varying temperatures and some will be infused with natural minerals. The Plunge is a nine-person cold pool, which in winter will have a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius.

The Drift will be a 25-person capacity pool at 21 degrees Celsus to ease the transition between other contrasting pools.

The Soak will reach 40 degrees Celsius as the hottest pool on site, designed to fit 30 people at a time in an open-air setting.

There will be two 39-degree Celsius pools, one called The Rise, which can fit 24 people and The Ember Basin which is much smaller and more secluded – only for six people at a time.

Programming

Laura Cordon, a sauna master and wellness practitioner specialising in yoga, meditation will lead the property’s wellness programming.

Wellness ceremonies that will be on offer include forest-infused sound journeys, mindfulness practices, group meditation and paired rituals.

Some sessions will also incorporate mineral scrubs, glacial rinses and wildcrafted aromatherapy to help guests reconnect with themselves, each other and the land around them.

As well as après-ski and happy hour-style thermotherapy and sauna socials, the spa will offer private events as well as evening activations such as botanical tastings.

Three more Everwild spa hotels

Sky McLean told Spa Business that Basecamp has conducted market research and studied competitors to identify opportunities across Western Canada for an expansion of the Everwild spa hotel experience. Three properties are already in various stages of development.

“In Fernie, construction is already underway on a mountainside retreat with 70 guest units and an expansive 21,000sq ft outdoor spa,” said McLean.

“At Everwild Harmony, in Calgary, we’ve secured land and are preparing to break ground in 2026 on a boutique hotel and 59,900sq ft Nordic spa destination shaped by the landscape itself,” she added.

“And in Banff, we’re bringing a first-of-its-kind rooftop Nordic spa and hotel experience to the heart of downtown, with construction beginning next spring,” continued McLean. “Together, these projects signal one of the most ambitious wellness and hospitality expansions in Western Canada – and we’re only just beginning.

“We are exploring future destinations in Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal and the Pacific Northwest. No matter the location, our goal remains the same: to create places where people can reconnect with nature, with each other and with themselves – to inspire a more conscious way of living.”
