Tweed Coast-based Universal Fabric Structures (UFS) is undergoing a major local and international expansion and rebranding program to meet increasing demand for their architect-designed tensile membrane structures.

The award-winning company has created customised fabric structures for major projects including the AUD$82m Brisbane State Tennis Centre and AUD$45m Sydney Wildlife World, and are now expanding locally and overseas with their new brand Fabritecture.

Fabritecture will specialise in the design, construction and project management of high-end architectural fabric structures for large-scale property developments, sporting stadiums and attractions.

UFS will remain active to provide a wide range of pre-engineered fabric structures.

The company's head office at Salt Village will soon be supported by new international offices in Singapore, San Francisco, Europe and the Middle East.

Managing Director David Gullis says the company's recent growth has been astounding, and the birth of Fabritecture will further lift the bar in fabric structure design and construction.

"We use quality tensile membrane fabric, which is flexible yet strong and works really well when it comes to creating interesting façades and shapes and new Fabrics are now available with better warranties. We are also using more PTFE (fiberglass based) fabrics and are implementing the use of ETFE in areas where glass facades are usually found.

"The creation of Fabritecture means more choice for developers, builders and private contractors who want their project to stand apart with a tailor-made, architect-designed fabric structure that is durable and unique."

Mr Gullis says many overseas markets are catching on to Fabritecture's innovative concepts and techniques.

"Demand from overseas is definitely on the rise - we have just won contracts for major projects in Singapore and New Zealand," Mr Gullis said.

"I expect interest from America will continue to grow following our recent award wins at the largest fabrics trade event in United States- the Industrial Fabrics Association International Expo.

"We look forward to opening our new international offices shortly, and showcasing the best of Australian tensile membrane architecture to the world."
