Explosion! set to explode doubts over visitor numbers
After press reports of a 'bleak future' for Explosion!, the £3.5m museum of naval firepower which opened a year ago in Hampshire, Gosport Borough Council says it is on track for a 'future of stability'.
Explosion! only attracted 41,000 visitors in its first year, less then half the projected 70,000. But the council says the visitor figures were down largely as a result of delayed transport infrastructure. Chris Henry, curator, said: 'Further developments of the museum will be achieved by the support of a group of national museums through initiatives and partnership.' The museum was voted Small Visitor Attraction of the Year 2003. Details: www.explosion.org.uk
