Fairmont to open seven new sites
Hotel operator Fairmont will open seven new properties during 2010, including the iconic Savoy in London.
A Fairmont Managed Hotel, the Savoy has undergone a nearly two-year, £100m restoration project involving 268 guest rooms and suites, the courtyard and famed American Bar, the public areas and guestrooms, plus the creation of a luxurious new Royal Suite and the complete remodelling of the legendary River Restaurant. The Savoy Grill will return under the operation of Gordon Ramsay Holdings, while additions include The Beaufort Bar, a new venue for champagne and cocktails, and the Savoy Tea Shop, a patisserie and take-away café. Within the Thames Foyer, the re-introduction of a winter garden gazebo beneath an ornate glass dome will offer a destination for afternoon tea.
Re-opening is scheduled for the middle of the year. Also new this year, Fairmont Peace Hotel is the new name for the restored 12-storey, 269-room Peace Hotel on Shanghai, China's, waterfront Bund, while Makkah Clock Royal Tower will be the focal point of Mecca's Abraj Al Bait complex when it opens in the second half of the year. The 858-room hotel will occupy a 76-storey, 577m (1,893ft) tower which features a 40m (130ft) clock. Other attractions will be a Lunar Observation Center and an Islamic Museum .
In Vancouver, Canada, Fairmont will shortly launch the Pacific Rim, a 377-room hotel adjacent to the Vancouver Conference Center expansion with views of Stanley Park, the Burrard Inlet, the North Shore Mountains and the city. Facilities include a Willow Stream Spa and Fitness Center and the company's Fairmont Gold lifestyle offering. In the US, the 185-room Fairmont Pittsburgh is situated in the city's Three PNC Plaza, a mixed-use building complex intended for certification under the US Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System. Elsewhere, the 222-room Fairmont Beijing is in its soft-opening phase and offers a three-level, 2,000sq m (21,528sq ft) Willow Stream Spa, while scheduled for opening later in the first half of the year is the 154-room Fairmont Zimbali Resort on South Africa's east coast.
