Tickets for the Flying Scotsman’s first regular scheduled service since the train was saved by the National Railway Museum (NRM) go on sale today.

The world’s most famous steam locomotive will run between York and Scarborough every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for six weeks between 20 July and 31 August.

There are three options available to passengers, a lunchtime excursion, an evening sundowner or a full day excursion.

The packages also include a Lunch Hamper or Scotsman Supper, each containing a three course light meal including an entrée, a selection of gourmet sandwiches and a dessert. Adult meals also contain a quarter bottle of wine.

Head of the NRM, Andrew Scott, said: “The summer team specials will be the first opportunity for Flying Scotsman supporters, fans and people from all over the UK and overseas to ride behind the museum’s newest attraction.

“The lunchtime departure is ideal as part of a family day out, offers two hours free in Scarborough and still leaves enough time for a visit to the NRM. The sundowner will appeal to visitors staying overnight in York who will have the opportunity to experience the romance of steam and the majesty of Flying Scotsman set against the backdrop of the setting sun.”

The Flying Scotsman, which was returned to public ownership for the first time in 41 years last April, thanks to donations from the National Heritage Memorial Fund, Sir Richard Branson and the public, is currently in the NRM’s workshop for minor repairs before it begins the summer journeys.
