Fire destroys Sheffield Ski Village building
South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue (SYFR) is to investigate the cause of a fire that destroyed the main building at Sheffield Ski Village in the early hours of the morning on 29 April.
Five fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to the incident at the facility, with a 200m (656ft) cordon imposed due to the potential presence of acetylene cylinders.
Earlier this morning (30 April), SYFR tweeted to say that it was still on site damping down after the blaze. The service also confirmed it hoped to begin its investigation today.
Sheffield Ski Village general manager Vicky Lloyd told the BBC: "The business has been running very well and we were due to be nearly full today (29 April) with children's parties."
The centre is now closed as a result of the fire, with SYFR revealed that "there is very little of the building remaining". In addition to skiing facilities, Shefield Ski Village also boasts a bowling alley.
