Fire ravages Universal Studios
A blaze broke out at Universal Studios Hollywood early yesterday morning (1 June), destroying film sets used for movies including Back to the Future, Spider-Man 2 and The Sting.
The fire began at around 4:45am local time and spread to an area two city blocks wide, devastating the mock New York and New England sound stages, which are popular tourist draws.
The cause of the fire isn’t currently known, and costs are expected to run into the millions.
Universal Studios closed yesterday, but reopened today and the MTV Movie Awards went ahead as planned last night.
Ten people – nine firefighters and a sheriff’s deputy – suffered minor injuries.
