The former Windsor Art Centre (WAC) in Windsor and Maidenhead has reopened under new management and a new name following an extensive refurbishment. WAC, now known as The Firestation Centre for Arts & Culture, closed in December after it went into administration.

The venue, built within the site of the town's former firestation and magistrates court, has now been taken over by management company Firestation Arts and Culture CIC.

The new facility includes two main performance areas, a 160-seat auditorium with a cinema and a 170-capacity Basement Studio. There is also the Firestation bar, an IT studio and improved gallery space for exhibitions.

The facility will showcase live music, film, contemporary art, dance, comedy and theatre. Resident art companies include 4Motion Dance Theatre, No Handbags and Everyday Theatre.

The project was funded by a number of private sources, which will compound an £80,000 annual grant from the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.

A spokesperson from the council said: "Firestation Arts & Culture CIC is a new community interest company founded by local resident Dan Eastmond who has 15 years of arts and entertainment experience. "He and his management team will now take forward a 12-month programme designed to cater for a range of ages and interests throughout the community."
