First HMVCurzon cinema opens
Music retailer HMV and cinema operator Curzon have opened a cinema at a HMV store in Wimbledon - the first in a planned nationwide network of store-based cinemas.
Branded as hmvcurzon, the cinema will operated as a joint venture between the two companies and is situated on the store's unused second floor.
The venue has three screens with a combined total of 263 seats and also features a fully licensed café-bar and a merchandise area.
HMV hopes to be able to roll-out the hmvcurzon concept to more locations across the country, although expansion plans will depend upon the success of the Wimbledon venture.
Simon Fox, chief executive of the HMV Group, said: "Millions of film fans visit HMV's high street stores each year, making them an ideal destination for this new type of cinema experience.
"This exciting partnership with Curzon demonstrates our commitment to getting our customers closer to the film and entertainment content they love."
The Wimbledon site will be the sixth site for Curzon. The other five sites are all in London - Mayfair, Soho, Bloomsbury, Chelsea and Richmond.
