Utobeer has opened The Rake bar on the site of a former 19th century public house in London’s Borough Market, making it the first bar within the boundaries of the market for 100 years.

The 91sq ft (8.5sq m) bar and outdoor decking area seats 44 and features a Pilkington glass ceiling.

The beer menu offers Thomas Hardy Ale on cask – for the first time in the UK – as well as Sierra Nevada Pale Ale from California; Veltins, a German pilsner; Maissels Weisse, a German wheat beer, plus Belgium Kwak and Liefmans Kriek on draught.

It also offers around 100 bottled beers, in addition to seasonal specials from around the world, in addition to 10 ciders, including Perry’s of Somerset.

The food is simple and includes products from the market, such as Elizabeth Kings pork pies and Flour Power bread.

Co-founder Richard Dinwoodie said: “We will always have two cask beers on offer as well as a wide range of bottled beers served at realistic prices.
