Fitness is the quay in Southampton

The Quays health and fitness centre has reopened in Southampton after a £107,000 refurbishment and extension.

Southampton City Council has redeveloped the 90,000sq ft centre to include a 90-station fitness suite filled with Life Fitness equipment, a new cardio theatre and an aerobics studio alongside the existing 25m Olympic standard pool, diving facilities and leisure pool.

'Since it opened in 1999 the Quays has established itself as the regional destination for excellence in swimming and diving,' says the council's cabinet member for leisure, Cllr Derek Burke. 'We are now concentrating on developing its facilities and making it one of the biggest and best-equipped health and fitness centres in the region.'

The centre has also opened 'The Quay to Health' - a dedicated wellbeing centre that focuses on sexual health matters, contraception, family planning and GP referrals. Details: +44 (0)23 8072 0918
