Five-year vision for Bournemouth
A new five-year masterplan outlining ideas for the future redevelopment of Bournemouth's seafront in Dorset is set to go before the local authority for consideration.
The proposals will be put before Bournemouth Borough Council's (BBC) economy and tourism overview and scrutiny panel for consideration on 12 October, as well as the council's cabinet on 14 October. Eight sites for development have been identified by the council, following a review of its Seafront Major Asset Plan to enhance the town's visitor experience and boost the local economy.
The regeneration of the Happylands site to provide facilities for beach and promenade users is among the plans, as well as a permanent bicycle hire facility, a revamped open space at Bournemouth Pier Approach and additional private beach huts at Southbourne West. Beverley Dunlop, BBC's cabinet member for leisure and tourism, said: "Our seafront draws in excess of 5.2 million visitors each year and is an extremely important public leisure amenity for local residents and tourists.
"As a major asset to the town, it is key that we look to the future and consider ways of rejuvenating the area, creating truly memorable customer experiences and maximising opportunities to assist economic regeneration in the town."
