Food goes Scott free at London restaurant
Scott’s, the famous restaurant in Mayfair, London, is serving lunches and dinners for free, following a dispute with neighbours over noise levels, according to The Daily Telegraph.
The restaurant – which was recently refurbished and reopened just over a week ago – has not yet received its trading licence from Westminster Council due to a campaign spearheaded by Glenys Roberts, a Westminster councillor, who lives above Scott’s and says the restaurant hasn’t been soundproofed properly.
However, the restaurant must honour all its previously booked reservations, but is not legally allowed to charge for food or drinks. The Telegraph reported that Scott’s has lost £350,000 in free meals, drinks and staffing costs.
Scott’s is owned by Richard Caring, the clothing supplier, whose Caprice Holdings restaurant group also has The Ivy, Le Caprice and Bam-Bou in its portfolio.
A meeting was scheduled for today (12 December), involving councillors and acoustic experts, at Miss Roberts’ flat, but the outcome is not yet known.
