Football Foundation backs Leicester project
Leicester mayor Peter Soulsby has announced that the Football Foundation has backed the city's plans for new facilities at the Riverside College site and Aylestone Playing Fields.
The scheme is to be the last of 11 sites to be developed as part of Leicester City Council's (LCC) £11.2m Football Investment Strategy, with plans to be submitted later this year. LCC's original plans to carry out the scheme as part of Aylestone Meadows were refused planning permission, with the revised plans to see the playing fields brought back into use.
Meanwhile, the facility at Riverside College will feature a clubhouse with changing spaces, a floodlit artificial turf pitch and a floodlit grass pitch. Football Foundation director of investment Dave McDermott said: "The new site that will be enhanced as a result of this funding also offers important new opportunities to develop disability sport in the city."
