Football League chief to step down
Lord Mawhinney, chair of the Football League, has announced that he intends to stand down from his position on 15 March 2010 after more than seven years at the organisation.
Mawhinney confirmed the decision at a Football League meeting in Preston on 12 November, with independent board member Ian Ritchie now set to oversee the process of selecting a replacement. Mawhinney said: "It has been a privilege to serve the Football League. I have greatly enjoyed the challenge of helping to shape a better league and I am grateful for all the support that I have received.
"This timetable will give my successor the opportunity to develop league policy for the 2010-11 season."
