St Moritz’s Kulm Eispavillon – which hosted the 1928 and 1948 Winter Olympics – has been restored by architecture firm Foster + Partners.

After being abandoned for several years, the building has now been regenerated to host sporting events, as well as other functions.

In February 2017, the venue is due to accommodate the medal ceremonies at the Ski World Championships, which are being hosted in the Swiss town.

It will also stage other sporting events, music festivals and classic car shows.

The building has been refurbished with an ice skating rink, restaurant, sun terrace and a new multi-purpose pavillion.

Located on the Davos Plaun, the pavilion was built with a wooden cantilevering canopy, which allows views towards the skating rink.

Famous memorabilia will also be showcase in a museum located on site.

“The new Kulm Eispavillon will be at the heart of the sporting schedule of St Moritz, and will also provide a flexible space for a variety of outdoor events throughout the year, from music concerts to car exhibitions,” said Norman Foster, chair and founder of Foster + Partners.

“Using the local tradition of wood, the entire ensemble is designed to be of the place, both in spirit and materials.”
