Foster launches NITB funding programme
A new funding programme designed to help develop and improve Northern Ireland's visitor offering for 2011-13 has been launched by the province's tourism minister, Arlene Foster.
Northern Ireland Tourism Board's (NITB) Tourism Development Scheme is open to firms that can demonstrate how their capital projects will increase visitor numbers.
Applications are to be submitted by noon on 6 January, with the NITB fund focussed on the themes of culture and heritage; food; music and gardens; and events infrastructure.
Foster said: "[The fund seeks to] develop key priority tourism products which have been aligned to meet increased visitor expectations and market need.
"This will help contribute to the achievement of our ambitious targets, which aim to turn Northern Ireland tourism into a £1bn industry."
Meanwhile, Foster has also supported the establishment of an All Party Group on tourism, which aims to encourage dialogue between the sector and the Northern Ireland Executive.
"This All Party Group will provide an opportunity for Members of the Legislative Assembly to broaden their understanding of tourism," said Foster.
