The Big Lottery Fund is to invest £5.3m in four UK-wide initiatives designed to inspire more than two million people to get more active.

The four projects to receive funding are Get set to Make a Change (£2.5m); Join In (£1.5m); Pedal On UK (£360,000) and Britain's Personal Best (£1m).

Delivered by the British Olympic Foundation, Get Set to Make a Change will create a network of young individuals, inspired by the Olympic and Paralympic values, to work in their own communities.

The network will be tasked with delivering projects that will help their community become a better place to live.

Meanwhile, the Join In Trust will use its £1.5m to build on the expertise and enthusiasm of the 2012 Games Makers.

A series of initiatives and events starting in July this year, one year on from the London 2012 opening ceremony, will encourage Games Makers, and others, to use the Join In website to identify and match up who needs their help volunteering in local communities across the UK.

Sustrans' Pedal On UK cycling event, led by a core team of volunteers, will travel along many of the newly opened walking and cycling routes on the National Cycle Network.

Britain's Personal Best (BPB), run by Society Network Foundation, is a public engagement campaign that aims to inspire communities to achieve a challenge of their choice and share their story to challenge and inspire others to take part.

The challenges can be anything from ‘I want to stop smoking’ to ‘I want to volunteer more’.

BPB will support participants in their endeavours online where they will be able to create or join a challenge to achieve a personal best, volunteer or raise funds for a local cause.

The funding is being released ahead of The Big Lottery Fund's new £40m Spirit of 2012 Trust being formally established.
