Funding boost for Fivehead sports facility
South Somerset District Council (SSDC) has agreed to contribute £12,500 towards the creation of a new £45,000 sports facility in Fivehead, near Ilminster.
Plans for the new open-access multi-use games area, which are supported by Fivehead Parish Council, include the conversion of unused tennis courts near to the village hall. The project is being carried out as part of the Fivehead Parish Plan, and it is hoped that the new facility will be completed by the autumn, depending on final fundraising efforts.
Patrick Palmer, chair of SSDC's area north committee, said: "It’s important that the residents have good facilities for activity and recreation. It builds upon South Somerset District Council’s history of supporting improved play areas and youth facilities across the district - and in Area North. "This really will make a difference to local people and we’re happy that things will soon start to happen onsite."
