Funding for Argyll and Bute cycle path plans
Argyll and Bute Council (ABC) has announced that it has secured funding towards the development of cycling and walking schemes across the west Scottish region.
Sustainable transport charity Sustrans will provide 50 per cent of the cost of seven projects, which will lead to new and improved facilities for users and will be match funded by the local authority. Projects that will receive funding include plans to continue a footway along the A816 at Lochgilphead; a new cycle and walking route between Corran Hills and Ganavan; and improvements to an existing part of the National Cycle Network at Kilmartin.
ABC spokesperson for transport and infrastructure Duncan Macintyre said: "By establishing more cycle paths and walking routes around the Argyll and Bute area people have the opportunity to stay healthy by walking, running and cycling around these car-free routes."
