Funding for grassroots sports in Wales
Skate parks, gymnastics and football are among the projects to receive funding in the latest round of awards from the Sports Council for Wales.
Almost £72,000 was awarded to Torfaen County Borough Council to fund pitch improvements at Penylan Playing Fields which includes the construction of a second full-size football, while just over £37,000 went to Caerphilly County Borough Council for a new indoor skate park at the Aberbargoed Leisure Centre, which is in an area of social deprivation. A committee has been created to play an active role in the management of the facility, which will offer girls-only sessions with a female skate instructor.
More than £30,000 will go to Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council to improve the pitch at Tonyrefail Boys and Girls Club, which will allow for the development a girl's football section. A final £20,000 was awarded to the Islwyn Gymnastics Club for new equipment. Details: +44 (0)29 2030 0527
