Funding sought for LGBT museum in Washington
A museum for LGBT American history is on the cards for US capital city, Washington DC.
According to the Washington Post, a couple who have collected 5000 pieces of gay memoribilia are in the process of raising funds for the proposed museum.
The collection includes posters and placards from historical protests and a film strip of a 1970 gay pride parade in New York.
Tim and Mitchell Gold say they want to tell American history and stories through the lens of the LGBT story: “So much of our history is unfortunately thrown out,” he says. “This isn’t a museum just for gay people, or just for lesbian people, or just for transgender people. I want anyone who walks through this door to be able to take something away from the experience.”
Still in the planning and fundraising stages, it is likely to be several years before the museum could open.
