Enfield residents were recently been invited to experience the results of a major redevelopment project at Southgate Leisure Centre as it opened its doors after extensive improvement works.

The state of the art site renovations represent an investment of over £5.5 million by Enfield Council in partnership with sport and leisure management charity Fusion Lifestyle, who manage Southgate Leisure Centre.

 Major new additions to Southgate Leisure Centre include a 95 station gym, two new fitness studios, an indoor cycle studio and brand new activity room. There will also be an improved and enlarged car parking facility, a revamped reception area, and a new on site café with views over the poolside, where visitors can relax with a drink or snack between activities.

 One of the most interesting features of the redevelopment is the eco friendly roof on the newly built section of the leisure centre. The 'living roof' will be planted with grasses and plants designed to promote nature diversity on the site, as well as reducing the amount of rain water that goes to drainage.

 Local residents and existing members were invited to try out all of the new facilities for themselves during an Open Weekend at Southgate Leisure Centre on 17th and 18th  November 2012.

 Cllr Bambos Charalambous, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture said: "The redevelopment of Southgate Leisure Centre has been a huge project, but we're extremely impressed by the transformation that has taken place and very proud of the high standard of facilities now available to visitors. I'd encourage Enfield residents to take advantage of the upcoming Open Weekend to see for themselves what the centre has to offer."

Fusion Lifestyle CEO, Pete Kay said of the opening: "Southgate Leisure Centre has been one of our most ambitious redevelopment projects to date and represents a significant reinvestment of profits towards improving leisure facilities for the local community. The upgraded fitness and swimming facilities along with a brand new café and extended parking area should make a real difference to members of the centre."
