GLL has made further gains in the south west of England by securing the management contract for six leisure sites on behalf of Bath & North East Somerset Council.

The leisure operator will oversee a £17m of investment in site upgrades as part of the deal, which sees GLL strengthen its foothold in the region following the recent acquisition of south west operator Tone Leisure.

The new contract covers Bath Sport and Leisure Centre, Keynsham Leisure Centre, Culverhay Leisure Centre, Chew Valley Leisure Centre, Odd Down Playing Fields and the Bath Pavilion.

The £17m modernisation and upgrade will include the construction of a new leisure facility in Keynsham, to include a swimming pool, learner pool, fitness suite and studio space, as the current facility is reaching the end of its useful life. It will also include a major refurbishment of Bath Sports and Leisure Centre that will include new and innovative products for the centre.

“We are very pleased to have been chosen to manage the leisure facilities in Bath and North East Somerset on behalf of the Council,” said GLL managing director Mark Sesnan, who was recently elected to the ukactive Board of Directors.

“Our objective is to increase sports, health, and physical activity in Bath and North East Somerset, and to bolster levels of sports participation in each of these leisure facilities.”

As part of the new deal, GLL has also committed to introducing a standardised leisure card scheme and concessionary pricing structure, including discounts for students and disabled users. Talented athletes across Bath & Somerset will also be able to access funding and sponsorship from the GLL Sport Foundation, which aims to support and develop young sportsmen and women in order to help them achieve their sporting ambitions.
