GLL makes a splash on Clapham Common
Charitable Social Enterprise GLL is a key player behind the delivery of The British Gas Big Dip, which was launched on Tuesday 28 June on London's Clapham Common, by celebrity model Jodie Kidd and former Olympic Swimmer Mark Foster.
The leisure operator is supplying 20 lifeguards and swimming instructors to the urban swim festival, which is based around two 12m x 6m temporary outdoor swimming pools and a man-made beach.
GLL staff will be running a range of water-based activities at the pool including Mini polo, Aqua Zumba, Swim Fit and Lane Swimming. However, for those who prefer to stay on dry land a variety of poolside activities will also be available, spanning everything from sandcastle building to beach volleyball.
Tickets to The British Gas Big Dip, which runs until 17 August cost just £3 per adult, which includes free admittance for up to two children aged 12 and under and be purchased online at www.bigdip.co.uk
GLL Swimming Development Manager, Andrew Clark said: "It is great to be involved in this fantastic community initiative. We hope that in addition to being great fun, the event will encourage more Londoners to try pool-based activities for the first time."
The British Gas Big Dip is the brainchild of Olympic swimming medalist Stephen Parry and builds on the 2009 build of a temporary swimming pool on the South Bank of the River Thames, which taught 2,000 people to swim in four weeks.
