Gaga retreats celebrating joy of dance to kick off at Schloss Elmau in Germany

Retreats focused on the Gaga mindful movement practice are set to launch at Bavarian destination spa and retreat Schloss Elmau this summer
Gaga dance workouts emphasise improvisation, sensation and the mind-body connection
The residency will kick off in August and be followed by a dedicated retreat next March hosted by Gaga founder Ohad Naharin
Schloss Elmau is the first wellness destination in the world to partner with Gaga to offer its programmes

Bavarian destination spa and hotel Schloss Elmau is looking to celebrate the joy of dance by becoming the first wellness destination in the world to offer retreats focused on the Gaga intuitive movement practice.

Gaga, described as a movement language, is a form of physical expression and communication that requires no prior experience. Conceptualised by Ohad Naharin – choreographer, performer, and former artistic director of the Batsheva Dance Company – Gaga emphasises improvisation, sensation and the mind-body connection.

“Gaga is not comprised of specific techniques or forms, but rather, it invites individuals into a deep exploration of their own movement capabilities in a receptive and engaging environment,” announced Schloss Elmau.

The Gaga residency at the Bavarian retreat will begin next month with a series of morning and evening classes between 12-17 August. Led by artistic director Saar Harari, these classes are open to guests over the age of 16 and designed to improve overall wellbeing and help participants experience the pleasure of movement and the joy of dance.

From 16-20 March 2025, Naharin himself will host a dedicated retreat, assisted by Harari. Described as a sensation-filled retreat, the programme will blend Gaga workout classes, research sessions about Gaga led by Naharin, spa treatments and nature immersion.

The four-night retreat costs €2,100 per person (US$2,285, £1,770), which includes room rate, full board, access to all wellness facilities, daily yoga classes, and transfers.

Additional Gaga-themed events will be added throughout the year and Schloss Elmau says the events are open to anyone, regardless of their previous level of dance experience.
