The Scottish Seabird Centre’s reputation for being at the forefront, worldwide, of remote wildlife viewing was enhanced recently when Felipe Cruz, director of technical assistance, at the Galapagos-based Charles Darwin Research Station visited.

Cruz was on a fact-finding visit to the Seabird Centre – learning about its success and looking at applying similar technologies and applications in the Galapagos.

An archipelago of unrivalled beauty, the Galapagos is home to some of the world’s most amazing creatures, some unique in the world.

Tom Brock OBE, chief executive of the Scottish Seabird Centre, said: “The Seabird Centre has enjoyed a long distance relationship with the Galapagos for some time. We are now keen to develop a partnership between the Galapagos and Scotland.

“One option that we would like to develop is to set up a satellite link to allow visitors to the Seabird Centre to control cameras live on the Galapagos. This would bring incredible spectacles of wildlife to people who may never be able to travel to the islands.

“The live cameras (similar to those on the Bass Rock) would involve no wildlife disturbance and visitors would not need to travel half way round the world to see this amazing wildlife. The technology is available to do this now – we just need a commercial sponsor to make it happen.”
