Gaylord Entertainment to open US$800m resort in Colorado
US-based hospitality and entertainment company Gaylord Entertainment has announced plans to develop a resort and convention hotel in Aurora, Colorado, US.
As a result of an agreement between Aurora City Council and Gaylord, the US$800m (£497m, €551m) project will be part-funded by taxes generated by the resort.THe deal will see virtually all the new taxes by the property being reinvested into the project.
Colorado-based Hensel Phelps Construction has been selected as the general contractor, and construction is due to begin in 2012. The company aims to open the resort by the end of 2015.
The property is expected to feature 1,500 guest rooms, 400,000 sq ft (37,000 sq m) of exhibition and meeting space, and panoramic views of the Rocky Mountains.
The resort will form part of the mixed-use High Point development in Aurora, which will also include up to 500,000 sq ft of retail development, 3,000 family residences, and 200 acres of protected open space.
